TEACHING OUTLINE Where did sickness come from? How did sickness get in? Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. When sin got in, sickness got in. Sickness is a form of death. Satan deceived Eve and made her doubt the goodness of God. Adam didn’t do what God told him, which was to guard the garden. He didn’t use his authority and disobeyed, therefore he died spiritually as God had warned him. What is spiritual death? It is separation from God. Man lost the nature and life of God when he sinned. Before the fall, man was strong and healthy and could have lived forever. When spiritual death came in; everything else followed; corruption, sickness, poverty and decay. All of that ended up in physical death. Sickness came in when sin came into the world. Therefore, what should be our attitude towards sickness? The church knows to hate sin, but some in the church accept sickness. God hates sin and sickness and so should we. 1 Cor 15:26 “The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.” Death and sickness are the enemies of God. Jesus hated sickness because He went around doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. Acts 10:38 “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” We must learn to resist sickness like we resist sin. Sin and sickness come from the devil. Luke 13:16 Jesus said “So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” You are NOT powerless. When most people get symptoms, they assume they are sick but you have the power to say no to symptoms just like you have learned to say no to sin by saying no to temptation. You have the power to say no to sickness by saying no to symptoms. Symptoms are to sickness what temptation is to sin. The temptation will not become sin until you yield to it. James 1:15 “Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” When you yield to temptation it gives birth to sin. The devil acts the same way with sickness. You are not sick yet when you are being “tempted” with symptoms. Do not yield to symptoms. James 4:7 says to submit to God and resist the devil and he will flee from you. You have to make a decision when symptoms come not to take on the sickness. When you are being tempted by symptoms, it’s like the devil knocking at your door. Close the door immediately. Don’t let him in. It’s much harder to kick the devil out when you let him in the door. In Matthew 16:19 in the Complete Jewish Bible Jesus told the disciples “I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven." The kingdom of God is the rule of God. How do you permit and prohibit? With words. How will the devil get permission to put sickness on your body? He cannot force you to sin or be sick. That’s good news! In Mark 11:23 Jesus said you will have what you say. This is the rule of the kingdom. The devil is like a business owner who knows the power of advertising; they put it before your eyes and ears. Luke 6:45 says that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. So the devil will put death and sickness in front of you constantly so it gets into your heart so you end up saying it. Do not speak sickness, don’t give it a legal right to get in your body. You also give permission often times by words spoken to you. Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me, Says the LORD.” You must condemn negative words spoken to you and against you. You need to nullify those words. Do not be passive also because by doing so you will also give permission. If you don’t cancel the negative words, it becomes a weapon formed against you. Testimony: a doctor told a couple that their child would be born with down syndrome. All the confirmed it. The couple did not accept it & with kindness refuted the doctors ‘words. For month, they refused the diagnosis & they took a stand by declaring God’s promise to them. The baby was born normal & healthy. We are not powerless, but we must get angry at sickness and kick it out when symptoms first show up. Take a stand immediately. Rom 8:11 “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” We have to learn to get angry at sickness. The will of God is to stay healthy so keep, tend and watch over your garden and do not let yourself be robed by satan!
