New Home 2B/2B F/Furn $463 A Month In Prachuap Khiri Khan Thailand! - Thai Tax ID Number For Expats!
Understanding the tax implications of bringing foreign money into Thailand is crucial, particularly due to recent changes and proposed revisions to the tax laws. Here's a breakdown of the current and proposed rules: 1. Tax residency If you spend 180 days or more in Thailand during a calendar year, you are considered a tax resident. As a tax resident, you are generally subject to Thai tax on income earned within Thailand and on foreign-sourced income brought into the country. 2. Foreign-sourced income Current Rule (since January 1, 2024):If you are a Thai tax resident, any assessable foreign income brought into Thailand is subject to Thai personal income tax, regardless of when it was earned, according to Titan Wealth International. Proposed Rule (drafted in June 2025):The Thai Revenue Department proposed an amendment to allow foreign-sourced income earned in or after 2024 to be exempt from tax if remitted to Thailand within the same calendar year or the following year. Income remitted after this two-year window would be subject to tax. Non-tax residents: Individuals residing in Thailand for less than 180 days are generally not subject to Thai tax on foreign income, as long as it's not from Thai sources. One correction!
