Do you know all the care wire-haired dachshunds need? In this video, you'll find the secrets to keeping your dachshund beautiful and healthy. As always, Hugo Pesquera explains everything in detail, including professional dog grooming secrets that are super easy to apply. The first thing to know is the coat characteristics of wire-haired dachshunds. They have a rough, coarse coat with very little undercoat. 👉 Deshedding 👈 For deshedding, we'll use volcanic rocks or deshedding brushes. We'll do this on the coat, leaving the front legs from the elbow and the hind legs from the hock unshedded. 👉 Brushing 👈 Brushing is much less frequent, especially for dachshunds with good-quality wire hair. We'll brush the front and hind legs, as well as the whiskers. For this, we'll use soft brushes and combs. 👉 Ear Cleaning 👈 The ears aren't just cleaned with wipes. We'll also use powder to remove the hairs inside the dachshund's ear canal to prevent infections and keep the canal free and ventilated well. Finally, we'll use wipes to clean any excess earwax. 👉 Eye Hair Trimming 👈 Using sculpting scissors, we'll trim the tear duct hairs, leaving the dachshund's eyes free of hair and the stop area, which we'll aim to create a continuous line from the nose to the skull. On the other hand, we'll trim the eyebrows, which in the case of the dachshund are two very small triangular eyebrows separated by the stop. Don't confuse them with the schnauzer, as they are much smaller in the dachshund's case.
