Semana Santa 2024 Moratalla (Miercoles Santo)

We continue with our Holy Week in Moratalla. I will try to upload videos of our unique "drum festival" as soon as possible. The drumming festivals of Moratalla and Mula are designated as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO under the proposal "Drumming. Rituals of Drumming," which brings together 22 towns united by the drum in five autonomous communities of Spain (Castilla-La Mancha, Andalusia, Aragon, the Valencian Community, and Murcia). This candidacy has been considered at the 13th edition of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Convention for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage, which is being held until December 1 in Port Luis (Republic of Mauritius), as reported by UNESCO. The committee considered that these tamboradas meet the five criteria required for this registration and declaration: "They are a living tradition with important social and cultural functions, deeply rooted in social life, passed on within families and organized groups, are inclusive, and play an important role in integration, fostering a sense of belonging, and strengthening ties between people of different ages, genders, and backgrounds." They also favored them because "they implement joint initiatives such as the National Drum Exaltation Days, that safeguarding measures are established, that this candidacy was born from the initiative of local communities, and that in all five communities they have been declared an intangible cultural asset." The tamboradas that already belong to this prestigious UNESCO list, along with Mula and Moratalla, are: Agramón, Hellín, and Tobarra, from Castilla-La Mancha; Alzira and L'Alcora, from the Valencian Community; Baena, from Andalusia; and Albalate del Arzobispo, Alcañiz, Alcorisa, Andorra, Calanda, Híjar, La Puebla de Híjar, Samper de Calanda and Urrea de Gaén, of Aragon.
