Something Will Remain II (audio) [Coś co zostanie] english subtitles

The “Something will remain” project is a local photographic campaign centred around Zofia Rydet’s “Sociological record” and an attempt to follow in her footsteps, both in the literal sense and in the sense of repeating the creative process. Just as it was with Rydet herself, this creative process has spread for us to several levels and gone beyond the strictly photographic framework. We printed several photos and went to a number places with piles of prints –to Płaza, Wygiełzów, Babice, Brzeziny Kieleckie, Zalipie, Biały Dunajec and Markowa. We were looking for people photographed by Rydet – we created situations in which they recognised themselves or their loved ones in pictures made more than 30 years ago. We handed them prints which in their hands acquired the status of a family souvenir. We held dozens of meetings and conversations, we established names, we reconstructed family histories, we collected memories associated with the things, places and persons seen in the photos. We compared the current topography of a given place with the photographic documentation, we tried to recreate the way Zofia Rydet acted in a given community, we discovered inaccuracies or errors in photograph descriptions, we tracked the relations between the successive negative frames. We use the “Record” as a tool from the area of cultural animation – in collaborations with local cultural institutions we organised photographic workshops for young people, who photographed the locals. Presentations and exhibitions of contemporary photos provided another opportunity for meetings and conversations.
