After all the hype, all the leaked set photos, all the “20 years later” nostalgia bait — I was fully prepared for disappointment. Especially after movies like Barbie, where the marketing almost became bigger than the film itself. But surprisingly, I actually enjoyed it. Of course, it is not as iconic as the first movie. But it is also nowhere near as bad as I feared it would be. And what really interested me wasn’t just the fashion — but what the movie accidentally – or not so accidentally – reveals about the state of the fashion industry today. Because this sequel feels much less like a fashion fantasy and much more like a commentary on the collapse of fashion authority. Gird your loins, fashion people, there is a strong message there.
