“Nos señalaron lugares en el Cementerio del Norte donde podrían existir fosas comunes”: Werner
The National Human Rights Institution yesterday presented a new report on complaints and cases under investigation of enforced disappearances for political reasons, which occurred between June 13, 1968, and June 26, 1973, and during the period of state terrorism, between June 27, 1973, and February 28, 1985. The investigation shows that the number of Uruguayans disappeared by state terrorism is no longer 197, but rather 205, with the addition of eight new cases: five resolved and three still active. In total, as of yesterday, “326 complaints of enforced disappearance during the period of state terrorism, both in Uruguay and abroad, had been received and processed.” To delve deeper into the INDDHH investigation and also into the progress or setbacks in knowledge and justice regarding what happened during state terrorism, we welcome Fabián Werner, part of the INDDHH investigation team that developed the report.
