Rachmaninov Prelude in D Op 23 No 4 - played by Peter Duckworth
Nearly all the great keyboard composers, from JS Bach onwards, have composed a set of preludes demonstrating the qualities of the different keys. This first set of Rachmaninov's, Opus 23, contains some of the better known ones, and is a style all of his own. It's hard not to love the peaceful No. 4 in D major - a slow, lyrical piece in contrast to some of its stormy neighbours.
