Natural disasters have struck Dagestan once again. One of the hardest hit is the Gergebil district. Due to the release of water from two hydroelectric power plants, rivers overflowed their banks. Water levels rose nearly 5 meters. The situation is most severe in the village of Kikuni. Infrastructure there was destroyed, tens of hectares of orchards and hundreds of livestock were submerged. Residents were evacuated promptly, and no one was injured. Our next story will cover the aftermath and what remains to be restored. Tough times have arrived for the Gergebil district. The water level of the Kazikumukhskoye Koysu and Karakoysu rivers rose by nearly 5 meters. This is the result of heavy rainfall and the simultaneous release of large quantities of water from the Gunib and Gergebil hydroelectric power plants on July 7-8. The village of Kikuni suffered the most. Over the course of several days, the flood swept away more than 250 livestock and approximately 300 beehives. Orchards, cultivated for decades, turned into a viscous swamp. 30 hectares were completely destroyed, and over 70 hectares were flooded. Residential buildings, as well as a local gym, soccer field, playground, workshop, and store warehouse, were damaged. The foundation of a bridge was destroyed. No residents were injured; everyone was evacuated promptly. Authorities and the public are working day and night. Rescue teams are dispatched daily. Together, they are moving surviving livestock from flooded farms. Preliminary damage amounts to one billion rubles. Significant damage was also inflicted on villages such as Khvartikuni, Kurmi, and Aimaki. Residential buildings, social facilities, and housing and utility services were damaged there.
