The first official S-Class and Mercedes's entry into the modern age. A huge success, the beginning of the S-Class's aura, and today a vivid reminder of times gone by. With the 116 series, Mercedes had once again made it clear who was in charge in the luxury segment combined with mass production. Powerful engines combined with a state-of-the-art chassis were good selling points. Unfortunately, the cars weren't built to last forever—but more on that in the second part.
