Killarney National Park: Castles, Abbeys & the Greenest Place on Earth

The McGillycuddy Reeks — Ireland's highest mountain range — loom in the background the whole time reminding you there's even more here than you can fit into a single visit. We didn't climb them. We had other things to do. The six stops: 🏰 Ross Castle — 15th-century tower house on the lake, fascinating guided tour, original furnishings, and a prophecy about how it could only be taken by ship (spoiler: it worked until it didn't). Book the tour. Completely worth it. 🍽️ Muckross Garden Restaurant — we were skeptical about eating at a tourist spot cafeteria. We were wrong. Get the dessert. 🏚️ Muckross House & Abbey — an entire wing was added just for Queen Victoria's one-night stay. She demanded a fire escape. The owner never became a Lord. 🌿 Dinis Cottage, the Meeting of the Waters & Old Weir Bridge — the point where three lakes meet, a bridge that's been there for centuries, and the densest, most ancient-feeling forest we've walked through in Ireland 💧 Torc Waterfall — not Niagara Falls, but genuinely lovely and worth the walk Good to know: Parking fees apply but there are no admission tickets for most of the park.
