Wärtsilä W46DF Loading Capability MN80

This is the W46DF 8L engine with 9160kW power (1145kW per cylinder), running a live demonstration of its loading capability. The engine starts directly in gas mode without any needs of liquid fuel boost for a smokeless start in a real integrated green environment where the Wartsila lab is located. From 0 to 20% load the engine is deactivating few cylinder base on advanced patterns to drastically reduce the Total Hydro Carbon emission, up to 50%. Thanks to the embedded engine Automation System the W46DF is capable to control combustion during the most critical loading ramps without any external/additional support of liquid fuel and air boost. In this specific demonstration the Wartsila 8L46DF engine will reach the full load in only 60 seconds, with focus on 0-70% range to cover the majority of the vessel manoeuvring loading profiles. Engine unloading performance in gas is settled in 25 seconds from 100 to 0. Then the engine can be safely stopped in gas without the need to transfer in liquid mode.
