IndiNations: Securities-Based Financing

Access to capital is a critical issue for Tribal Nations, Native organizations, and Tribal foundations. While traditional bank financing remains an important tool, it is not always the only option available. In this episode of IndiNations: Seven Generations Investing, we discuss securities-based financing as a potential way to access capital outside of traditional banking. We cover how Tribal organizations may be able to use non-trust investment assets, settlement funds, unrestricted revenue, or permanent funds to support financing needs without immediately selling long-term investments. We also compare traditional bank financing with securities-based lines of credit and short box spreads, including the potential benefits, limitations, risks, and situations where each tool may or may not make sense. This conversation is not about replacing bank financing, grant funding, or government programs. It is about understanding the full range of tools available and choosing the right financing option for the right need.
