Initially constructed in sections over more than 150 years and maintained by the Corps, it serves both commercial and recreational purposes. Originally built for commerce and transport, the waterway now combines economic, recreational, and scenic value, serving as both a protected shipping route and a year-round destination for boating and water sports. 0:00 Main titles.
