LOKRUM ISLAND (DON'T MISS THIS IN DUBROVNIK!)

Lokrum Island is a place that you should not miss while in Dubrovnik. It's only a 15 minute boat ride from the Old Town of Dubrovnik, so if you want to experience a peaceful nature reserve close to the walled city, you have to visit the island of Lokrum. Tickets for the ferry to Lokrum Island and entrance to the island is 100 kunas. The ferry is called Scala, and it leaves and returns to the Dubrovnik Old Town Port several times a day. As soon as we arrived at Portoč, Lokrum Island's port, we made our way to the Benedictine monastery to sit on the Iron Throne (a replica of the throne from Game of Thrones). Inside the monastery, there is also a visitor information center explaining the history of Lokrum and the legend of the island's curse. There is also Game of Thrones facts and stories as well because some scenes were filmed on the island. Right outside of the monastery, we saw quite a few peacocks. This was one of our favorite things about Lokrum Island. Next we made our way to the Dead Sea (Mrtvo More). This is a popular swimming spot on the island. After relaxing at the Dead Sea, we headed toward the Gardens Of Maximilian. These gardens are next to the monastery. Then we had a quick snack at one of the picnic tables in the Olive Grove. Wandering further, we climbed the steep path to Fort Royal. From the fort, you can get fantastic views of the Adriatic Sea and Dubrovnik's Old Town. After visiting Fort Royal, we strolled around the island past Lazaret, the quarantine hospital.
