Dai Calendar 1388 New Year Festival Parade JingHong, XiShuangBanNa, YunNan, China 2026 April 4K UHD 60FPS The Water Splashing Festival, also known as the Bathing Buddha Festival, is called "Sang Kan Bi Mai" in the Dai language, meaning the Dai New Year. Legend has it that seven fairies killed a demon king, and to cleanse themselves of impurities, they splashed water on each other. This custom was later imitated by others, symbolizing bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new, washing away bad luck, and praying for good fortune. Because of the lively water-splashing activities during the festival, it is also known as the Water Splashing Festival. The "Dai Water Splashing Festival" is prevalent in Dai villages in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture and Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, and is one of the most important traditional festivals of the Dai people. The Water Splashing Festival in Xishuangbanna is usually held from April 13th to 15th each year, with slight variations in different towns and villages. The grand folk cultural parade during the Xishuangbanna Dai New Year is one of the most representative mass cultural activities. The event typically takes place from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM on April 14th in the main streets and water-splashing square of Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Prefecture. The 2026 parade consisted of eight groups and 46 performance teams, with nearly 3,000 performers gathering in the streets of Jinghong City. Through music, dance, interactive performances, large floats, and creative acts, participants will be immersed in the culture of Xishuangbanna's ethnic minorities. This year, the event has added large inflatable puppets, adorable guides, and role-playing performances to enrich the viewing experience.
