[TAS] Atari 2600 California Games in 05:21.647
Atari Games 2600 California! A collection of four exciting events in this one: Foot Bag (aka Hackey Sack), Half Pipe Skateboard, BMX Bike Racing, and Surfing. ! Objectives Emulator used: BizHawk 2.11 Play through all events (as fast as possible, in the non-timed event) Fastest completion (and not maximum score) Each event (except for BMX) is on a 90 second timer. Because of this, there's not much I can do other than showing off cool things during those 90 seconds. ! Foot Bag In this one, you have to juggle the sack using everything except for your hands. You score more points by having the sack stay in the air. You can jump, move left and right, turn around, and kick the sack. Several kicks are possible, and they're all dependent on your position underneath the sack. ! Half Pipe Skateboard My least favorite. You ride back and forth on a ramp, and perform cool stunts. Gaining speed is done by holding down when skating down, and holding up when skating up. There are 3 different stunts: an aerial turn, a hand plant, and a kick turn. 1. Aerial turns are done by moving the joystick in the opposite direction of the ramp, when in the air off the edge of the ramp. Holding for too long or too little causes the skater to fumble. 2. Hand plants are done by holding the action button just as you reach the top of the ramp. Hold for the right amount of time, or fumble. 3. Kick turns require you to not have max speed, and then hold the opposite direction of the ramp on the bottom part of it. This one actually has a time saving technique. Skipping to the next event is only possible when the skater is at a complete stop. At the end of the event, I make sure the skater is on their way to the middle to go to the next event ASAP. ! BMX Bike Racing Finish the course as fast as possible. I hold right as much as possible to stay at max speed, releasing for a frame when I need to land on certain terrain (since if you don't center the joystick, the rider will fumble). There are 2 stunts that can be done: 1. Holding the stick up lets you do a flip. Unless you do 2 or more in a row, the next stunt will always give more score. The manual mentions giving 1800 points if you do a triple flip, but this might not be possible? It doesn't look like you can get the kind of height necessary for that. 2. Holding the stick down lets you do a table top. The score for these depends on how long down is held, but they usually give more score than doing 1 flip, and don't take as long to complete. 3. Simply jumping can give points as well, depending on how long the jump is. Each section is divided by yellow flags, but there are blue bonus flags that can be collected for 400 points each. Getting some requires slowing down, so I only grab ones that don't require that. I avoid hazards because they cause me to fumble. You can jump off of springs to gain extra height. For some reason, after finishing this event you can't just press B to continue. Pressing the "practice next event" button (select) is required. I press it the first frame that the biker does the last part of his animation. ! Surfing Ride the wave, and balance yourself as to not fall. Up and down are used to steer the board left and right, and you can hold down B to get sharper turns. Pressing right lets you "Hang Ten", where the surfer hangs all 10 toes off the board. You especially need to balance when doing this. You can go off the top of the wave to do a cool jump. Doing full 360's can give you points 10 times. After that the cool noise it makes (and the points) stops. I end the movie by pressing B to restart the event.
