Black 5’s on The Jacobite steam July 2023

The Jacobite steam specials running between Fort William and Mallaig on a twice daily basis by West Coast Railways. The locos used are 2 of 3 Black 5’s allowing one as a spare or maintenance, with class 37 diesels as a back up There were crowds of people around Glenfinnan viaduct making it unpractical to stop there to video the train due to the Harry Potter phenomenon compared to 2000 when we were the only people there to video. Now there’s car parking marshals, coaches the lot, so we went out to the western side of Glenfinnan and got a nicer shot. You could tell when the train had crossed the viaduct as there was an influx of cars and coaches everywhere causing mayhem on the road again. All I can say is, it’s a financial input into the local tourist economy, however, I’m not sure how big the environmental impact is. A double edged sword in this case.
