On June 27th, 17-year-old Nahel was driving in a bus lane before being pursued by the police. When the officers caught up with him at 8:15 a.m., the young man drove off again, and a shot was fired. The central question remains whether this was an act of self-defense or intentional homicide. This fatal shooting sparked riots across France. The police officer involved, charged with intentional homicide, was released after several months in pretrial detention but remains under judicial supervision. The sergeant's lawyer asserts that his client felt it was necessary to shoot to prevent Nahel from leaving, specifying that he was aiming downward. He also disputes the accusations that the officer threatened the victim by saying he was going to shoot him "in the head." He insists that his client "remained extremely calm" during the intervention. Due to the numerous threats against him, the officer participated in the reenactment wearing a balaclava and bulletproof vest, a measure deemed necessary by his lawyer to ensure his safety and allow the justice system to carry out its work without external pressure.
