The fuel crisis in Russia is escalating following Ukraine's attacks on the country's oil refineries. The Kremlin is at a loss as to how to resolve the problem. This was reported by the influential Russian resource VChK-OGPU, which is considered close to the Russian special services.The crisis has reached Moscow and the Moscow region, where residents are forced to stand in huge lines due to gasoline and diesel shortages. The Moscow refinery in Kapotnya, which was recently hit by drone strikes, is not shipping fuel."The repairs will take two to three months. However, even after that, the plant will not be able to reach full capacity, as one of the cracking columns is irreparably damaged," the source said. The Yaroslavl and Ryazan oil refineries are unable to help the capital because they are also "battered" by drone strikes. "Diesel production at the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery has been completely disabled, and this, according to sources, will last 'a very long time,'" the Cheka-OGPU writes. Currently, the Noginsk oil depot, which also has oil refining capacity, has become the key fuel supplier for the Moscow region. However, its capacity is too small to cover the needs of the Russian capital and the surrounding region. "According to a source, Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov was forced to directly ask Alexander Lukashenko for help in alleviating the gasoline shortage.This issue was likely also raised during the closed meeting between Putin and Lukashenko. The two largest Belarusian refineries, Mozyrsky and Naftan, can partially fill the fuel shortage in the Moscow region and several other Russian regions, but given the challenging logistics, fuel prices will only rise. Plus, Lukashenko is wary of Vladimir Zelensky's threats, and if something happens to the refineries in Belarus, it would be catastrophic for the country," the outlet writes. According to him, the Russian government regularly holds closed meetings regarding the fuel crisis, but they are unable to find a solution. The problem is that Ukraine is destroying critical equipment with its attacks, for which there is simply no replacement."The cracking columns at refineries have been targeted. These are very complex units. According to a source, given the current global situation, Russia can only order them from China, but manufacturing there currently takes about 1.5 years, plus shipping... Therefore, the arrival of new cracking columns can realistically be expected in two years," the resource writes. Russia is currently frantically trying to increase fuel imports to meet domestic market demand. Negotiations are underway with Kazakhstan, India, Georgia, and other countries. "And yet, this fuel is not enough for all of Russia. So far, no effective solution has been found. The regions are largely left to their own devices to resolve the fuel problem," the Cheka-OGPU noted. Fuel shortages haven't yet affected Chechnya because it has its own small oil refinery. Meanwhile, other regions are sliding into crisis. "In the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic and Dagestan, they're already considering returning to the practice of so-called 'samovars' – makeshift mini-installations for primary oil refining that cause catastrophic damage to the environment," the channel reported.
