COMO EMILINHA BORBA MORREU?

How did Emilinha Borba die? Emilinha Borba was an iconic figure in music and radio, especially during the Golden Age of Radio. Known as the "Queen of Radio," she captivated audiences with her powerful voice and charisma, popularizing various musical genres, such as samba, bolero, baião, and marchinhas. Emilinha was one of the most awarded artists of her time, receiving numerous titles and trophies throughout her career. Emília Savana da Silva Borba, better known as Emilinha Borba, was born on August 31, 1923, in the Mangueira neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. She was the daughter of Eugênio Jordão Borba and Edith da Silva Borba. From an early age, Emilinha demonstrated a natural talent for music, something that would become evident throughout her childhood. Her family was quite large; in addition to her, Marlene became the Queen of Radio that year. Emilinha would only achieve the title of Queen of Radio in 1953, winning only with the help of popular support. Emilinha Borba cemented her success with a series of songs that became classics of the Brazilian repertoire. In 1951, she released "Tomara que Chova," a marchinha that became a Carnival anthem. In 1954, Emilinha recorded "Aí Vem a Marinha," a song celebrating the Brazilian Navy that became very popular. Her career was closely linked to the Navy, and over the years, she performed several songs that praised the Brazilian Navy. Emilinha participated in various events and tributes held by the institution and was even honored with the title of "Permanent Favorite of the Navy," further strengthening this special connection. Among her interpretations of the Navy were the songs "Aí Vem a Marinha" and "Cisne Branco." These songs not only celebrated the institution but also became popular anthems. Over the years, Emilinha Borba gradually lost radio airplay, mainly due to health problems that severely hampered her career in the late 1960s. In 1968, Emilinha was inactive due to health problems. She suffered from edema in her vocal cords and, after three surgeries and a long course of treatment to retrain her voice, she returned to singing. In the following years, the Brazilian music scene began to change rapidly. New musical styles were gaining popularity, and her prestige among younger generations diminished over the years. Even so, her loyal audience never stopped attending her shows in various theaters across Brazil. In her final decades, she went 22 years without recording a new album, returning only in 2003, when she released the album entitled "Emilinha Pinta e Borba," featuring guest appearances by singers such as Cauby Peixoto, Marlene, Ney Matogrosso, and others. To promote the CD, the singer used a grassroots sales strategy, where she herself went out onto the streets to sell directly to the public. A year after the release of her latest work, Emilinha began to suffer from serious health problems. In 2004, she suffered a fall inside her home and was quickly taken to São Lucas Hospital in Copacabana with two fractures in her right shoulder and arm. She required surgery. Even so, Emilinha continued to fulfill her professional commitments, and soon after the surgery, the singer was already performing shows. In June 2005, Emilinha suffered another fall in her apartment in Copacabana. This time, the fall was more severe, and the singer arrived at the hospital with a head injury. Despite the severity of the injury, she made a good recovery, but her family needed to take extra care of her. She spent the last few months being cared for by her family, resting in her apartment. Until one afternoon, while having lunch in her apartment, Emilinha suffered a massive heart attack and died shortly thereafter. Emilinha Borba died on October 3, 2005, of a heart attack. She was 82 years old. Her body lay in state at the City Council in Rio de Janeiro, and she was buried at the Caju Cemetery. Emilinha Borba was more than a singer: she was a complete artist who dominated the radio, enchanted audiences with her voice and talent, and left an invaluable musical legacy for Brazilian culture. Her memory and her work continue to inspire and move, forever consecrating her as the "Queen of Radio." And that's how Emilinha Borba died!
