Hatay - 14 yıl aradan sonra Cilvegözü’nden Şam’a TIR’la yapılan ilk ihracat

A shipment of four trucks departed for Damascus, the capital of Syria, today, for the first time in 14 years, from the Cilvegözü Customs Gate in the Reyhanlı district of Hatay. Exports by truck, which have been blocked in Syria since the outbreak of the civil war in 2011, were carried out today from Cilvegözü on a trial basis. Following a ceremony at Cilvegözü, the trucks entered the customs area. Following the subsequent procedures, the trucks departed for Damascus, the capital of Syria. Kemal Gül, Vice President of the International Freight Forwarders Association (UND), made a statement in Cilvegözü. “We are proud. Today, we are joyful and happy. After 14 years, our logistics exports have been opened to Syria. Our joy is boundless. Our ministries, our government, and our President have made significant contributions to this project. We thank them on behalf of the sector. As UND, we were involved in this project. Our members prepared and allocated their vehicles. We completed the loading. We have currently loaded and sent off four of our vehicles for trial purposes. Of course, when we talk about logistics, time comes first. During these 14 years, we have conducted our trade over long distances, both via Ro-Ro and other long-distance routes. We traveled to the Gulf countries via Iran. We carried out very costly and time-consuming transports. This will significantly contribute to our economy. Transport will not be limited to Syria. I hope that in the near future, we will begin transporting goods to countries like Jordan, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia via Syria. We are shipping fruits, vegetables, and dried goods in trucks. Transport will continue.” Raif Ay, a member of the UND High Council of Honor, said in his statement: “As UND, today is a day of pride. We are rightfully proud to begin transit transportation within the country via Syria after a 14-year hiatus. Our routes have become much longer in 14 years, we have incurred significant expenses, and we have covered a great deal of ground. With the opening of the Syria route, God willing, we will continue our journey at a faster pace and at lower prices. We will be proud of fast, economical transportation both within Syria and to the Gulf countries. If we contribute even a little to our country's exports, we are delighted. We would like to thank our President, the Minister of Trade, the Minister of Transport, and the Customs Directors who opened this route for us. We are rightfully proud of this excellent route and the opening of this excellent route. This way, we will also have rapid entry and exit on the Syrian side. We will carry out our transportation to the Middle East with a daily capacity of 800-1,000 vehicles.” For 14 years, exports from the Cilvegözü Customs Gate were carried out by trucks. The trucks would drop off their loads at the transfer area between Cilvegözü and Syria's Bab-El Hawa Border Gate and return to Turkey. From now on, the trucks will travel to cities within Syria.
