हिमाचल प्रदेश का कांगड़ा नगर, जिसे नगरकोट भी कहा जाता है, ब्रजेश्वरी देवी मंदिर के कारण पूरे भारत में प्रसिद्ध है। यह मंदिर 51 शक्तिपीठों में से एक है और माना जाता है कि यहाँ देवी सती का बायां वक्ष गिरा था। इसलिए यह स्थान अत्यंत पावन और भक्तों की आस्था का केंद्र है। पौराणिक मान्यता के अनुसार, पांडवों ने महाभारत काल में देवी के निर्देश पर इस मंदिर का निर्माण किया था। इतिहास में यह मंदिर कई बार लुटेरों द्वारा तोड़ा और लूटा गया, विशेषकर 1009 में महमूद गजनवी ने यहाँ से सोना, चांदी और जवाहरात लूटे। फिर भी हर बार मंदिर पुनः स्थापित हुआ। 1905 में आए भूकंप में मंदिर नष्ट हो गया था, लेकिन भक्तों की श्रद्धा से इसका पुनर्निर्माण हुआ और आज का मंदिर उसी का स्वरूप है। हर साल मकरसंक्रांति पर यहां घृत मंडल पर्व मनाया जाता है। मान्यता है कि युद्ध में घायल देवी के घाव भगवान शिव ने मक्खन लगाकर भरे थे। इसी परंपरा के अनुसार आज भी देवी की पिंडी को मक्खन से ढककर प्रसाद बांटा जाता है। यह मंदिर न केवल शक्ति और आस्था का प्रतीक है, बल्कि इतिहास, पौराणिक गाथा और चमत्कारी मान्यताओं का जीवंत प्रमाण भी है। The Brajeshwari Devi Temple in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, is one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas of India. Also known as Nagarkot Dham, the temple holds immense spiritual significance as it is believed to be the spot where the left breast of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Vishnu cut her body into 51 parts with his Sudarshan Chakra. This makes Brajeshwari Devi Temple a powerful center of devotion and faith. According to legend, the Pandavas built the original temple during the Mahabharata era after Goddess Durga appeared in their dreams and directed them to do so. Historically, the temple has faced repeated invasions and lootings, most notably by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1009, who plundered the temple’s immense wealth of gold, silver, and jewels. Despite destruction and even the devastating earthquake of 1905, the temple was rebuilt each time, symbolizing unshaken faith. One of the most unique traditions here is the Ghrit Mandal Festival during Makar Sankranti. Devotees cover the goddess’s idol with purified butter, recalling the legend of Lord Shiva healing her wounds with butter after a fierce battle. This butter is later distributed as prasada, believed to cure skin diseases and even severe ailments.
