Failures in Fixed Dental Prosthesis. Classification based on type of failures. Types of failures based on biologic, mechanical, aesthetic and psychogenic factors. Biological factos - caries, periodontal disease, occusal factors, cementation failures and pulp degeneration. Mechanical factors such as loss of retention, connector failure, porcelain fracture, over or under contoured crown and pontic failure. Aesthetic factors such as improper shade selection, patient expectations, lack of communication with laboratory, overglazing, greater metal thickness and lack of translucency.
