La DISFATTA di CAPORETTO
1917 was a year of great sacrifices for Italy: on the Isonzo, two more offensives desired by the high command, the tenth and the eleventh, were extinguished. The losses for the Italian army, forced into continuous assaults without significant results, began to weigh on the homeland; all that was missing was a military defeat to put Italy in crisis. At 2 am on 24 October 1917, an Austrian army with the support of seven German divisions began operations between Tolmino and Caporetto, the twelfth battle of the Isonzo had just begun. After the first day of battle, the Italian army had lost 40 thousand men, while a similar number were trapped in the positions of Monte Nero. 10 thousand square kilometers were lost, 300 thousand prisoners and all the resources piled up on the front such as weapons, ammunition, and supplies fell into Austrian hands. The reasons for Caporetto are many: the Italian army was stuck in defensible positions that had never been tested by a real assault; the divisions were tired from the last offensives that ended a few months earlier; the troops were demoralized by the situation and finally the German tactics proved too advanced for the Italian troops. After such a defeat it seemed only a matter of time before Italy gave in: on November 30, Vittorio Emanuele Orlando, a Sicilian jurist who had been minister several times under Giolitti, was called to government. Boselli thus paid for the blind trust he had placed in Luigi Cadorna. ► Instagram (@lastoriasultubo): / lastoriasul… ► TikTok (@lastoriasultubo): https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM8tS7YR1/ ► Facebook: / lastoriasultubo ================================== 00:00 - 10th and 11th Battle of the Isonzo 01:10 - The 12th Battle of the Isonzo begins 01:45 - The German tactic of infiltration 02:03 - The Royal Army in rout 03:33 - The fall of Luigi Cadorna 03:56 - The reasons for the defeat 04:54 - The Orlando government 05:35 - The qualities of Armando Diaz 06:12 - The defense of the Piave 06:53 - The P Service ================================== #FirstWorldWar #Caporetto #Cadorna #HistoryOnTheTube A Specter Film Collective production www.specterfilmcollective.com STARRING: Francesco Furesi, Pietro Iacopo Benzi ARTISTIC DIRECTION: Francesco Furesi SCREENPLAY: Pietro Iacopo Benzi, Francesco Furesi HISTORICAL CONTENTS: Pietro Iacopo Benzi PHOTOGRAPHY: Alessandro Panzeri SET DESIGN: Andrea Cedraro DIRECT AUDIO: Edoardo Conti EDITING: Francesco Furesi MOTION DESIGN: Francesco Furesi, Mattia Rossetti STOCK FOOTAGE: Pietro Iacopo Benzi COVER: Edoardo Conti SOUND DESIGN & MIX: Andrea Romani PRODUCTION: Caterina Scalfi SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER: Fulvio Matera
