The Oxyhemoglobin Dissociation Curve & The Bohr Effect

This tutorial looks at the Oxyhemoglobin Dissociation Curve - plotting the relationship between the Oxyhemoglobin Saturation (SaO2) and the Partial Pressure of Oxygen in the Blood (PO2). It look at why the curve is important to Oxygen Delivery to the Tissues - to provide even distribution of O2, what happens in hypoxia and why Carbon Dioxide is important. This is because of the Bohr Effect. I then explore why the O2 dissociation curve shifts to the right and left and why a SpO2 and blood gas may be misleading. Finally I discuss 2,3 BPG. I guarantee you'll learn something. ‪@ccmtutorials‬
