🦉 Watch a female Eurasian Eagle-Owl feeding her chicks and observe their behavior at a nest hidden beneath a fallen tree. This unique footage shows feeding, defensive postures, and sibling rivalry directly at the nest site. The video offers an authentic look into the life of this fascinating owl species, which usually nests on the ground among uprooted trees and boulders. While ground nesting is typical, it's not uncommon for eagle-owls to use abandoned nests in trees – often those of storks or buzzards. 🎥 All footage was captured in the wild using Bunaty One trail camera, with additional shots filmed on a Canon R5C. 🧐 Did you know? Eagle-owl chicks are fed exclusively by the female. Until the chicks are able to feed themselves, the female tears up the prey delivered by the male. He drops the prey at a pre-arranged spot, and the female flies out to collect it. The male does not have the instinct to feed the young directly – which means that if the female dies or abandons the nest, the chicks may starve to death, even if there is a large supply of prey nearby. Such footage is crucial for studying the natural behavior of eagle-owls. It provides valuable insights into diet, feeding times, chick development, movement, and possible nest disturbances caused by predators. Before placing the trail camera, the chicks were ringed by ornithologist Josef Veselý, a long-time expert not only on eagle-owls, but also on species like the Western Marsh Harrier, White-tailed Eagle, and other raptors.
