Is God Triune? What does our Orthodox Church say about who God is? How do we know if God is One or Three Persons? Are there signs in the Old Testament and the New Testament where we see that God is Triune? What is God's name? How is it possible for God to be three persons, but at the same time one God? How can this happen? A simple human example with the Holy Trinity is what Saint Spyridon did with the tile, when the heretic Areios disputed the existence of the Holy Trinity. Then, he took a tile and said in the First Ecumenical Council "How many tiles do I hold, one or three?" And everyone told him, one. And then he said, but watch, he made the sign of the cross on the tile, in front of the heretic Areios and the tile was divided into water that fell down, into soil that remained in his hand and into fire that came up. How many tiles, he told them, do I have? One. And yet this one is basically three. One simple human example that shows us the mystery of the Holy Trinity. God is not touched or understood because He is incomprehensible, as we said from the first moment. A passage we read in the Old Testament in the book of Genesis "and God said, God himself said, Behold, Adam has become one of us." Here the Son and the Holy Spirit hide behind this phrase, so he speaks in plural. There are many examples both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament, as long as we read them. Because if we do not read and do not know who God is, we can easily go astray and become heretics. Orthodoxy accepts and believes, as we say, in the Symbol of Faith, "I believe" that God is Triune. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Trinity which we worship and honor as the only True God.
