Bridges Oregon Announces New Hire Beth Shuler-Krause

Bridges Oregon is pleased to announce a new hire to our culturally and linguistically specific statewide nonprofit organization. Bridges Oregon was recently awarded funding from the Oregon Department of Human Services’ Office of Aging and Disabilities for general advocacy services. Elizabeth (Beth) Shuler-Krause will join Bridges Oregon as Lead Family Advocate & Case Manager. Elizabeth (Beth) Shuler-Krause joins Bridges with over 15 years of experience working with children and families in Oregon. She is a dual-certified Teacher of the Deaf and Early Intervention/Early Childhood Education specialist who enjoys working to change and improve systems that serve DHH children and families. At the state level, she was appointed by the Superintendent of Student Services at Oregon Department of Education to the HB 3412 legislative task force as an expert in language acquisition in young DHH children. She also engages in systems work at the national level having provided technical assistance and training for the National Center for Hearing Assessment & Management, as well as Hands & Voices Headquarters/the Family Leadership in Language and Learning (FL3) Center. In all of her roles, Elizabeth (Beth) has worked to increase opportunities for DHH Leaders to participate in systems that serve DHH children and families, and to connect parents of DHH children with the Deaf community. “For the past few years, I have been focused on my work at the national level with systems, and am excited to get back to working directly with families with DHH children in Oregon. Growing up as a hard of hearing/Deaf individual, my parent’s advocacy and efforts to make sure I was connected to the Deaf community contributed greatly to my success and development of my identity. My goal is to empower parents of DHH children and help them connect with the Deaf community so that their DHH children can thrive” says Elizabeth. Executive Director Chad Ludwig says, “We are excited to have Elizabeth on the team. Her in-depth experience working with families, as well as her interest and skill in systems level work, will be valuable assets to our team and will have a positive impact on outcomes for DHH children and their families across the state.” Elizabeth’s services focus on supporting families in navigating educational systems, health care systems and social services, as well as connecting families with the DHH community. Her services are available to any family of a DHH child or teen in urban and rural counties along the I-5 corridor from Portland to Ashland.
