The Spanish National Court has acquitted singer Shakira of alleged tax fraud. The Spanish Tax Agency was demanding 55 million euros from her for the 2011 tax year, but the ruling has annulled the assessments and penalties imposed and orders the Tax Agency to refund the amounts paid, totaling approximately 60 million euros. In 2011, Shakira was on a world tour, performing 120 concerts in 37 different countries. She had no home in Spain, no children, and her business headquarters were not located there; even so, the Tax Agency forced her to pay taxes on all the earnings from the tour without taking her expenses into account, resulting in significant losses. According to her defense, the amount owed is €27 million in income tax, a €30 million guarantee, plus interest and legal costs. In total, more than €60 million. The National Court's ruling can be appealed and does not affect a previous conviction she received for tax evasion between 2012 and 2014.
