Na Trilha de Besouro – Parte 1 | Capoeira Angola de Rua em Salvador com Mestre Lua Rasta
Street capoeira angola in Salvador reveals a rare dimension of Afro-Brazilian culture: a capoeira born from the streets, from music, from encounters and from the strength of popular culture. This documentary presents a cultural movement led by Mestre Lua Rasta, where capoeira, percussion, philosophy and memory walk together through the historic streets of the city. The film follows the Bando Anunciador, a group created by Mestre Lua Rasta that transforms rhythm, percussion, improvisation and body movement into a cultural language. In the form of an arruada, the group moves through the historic center of Salvador, calling the city to the roda and reaffirming the presence of capoeira in public space. The journey leads to the Terreiro de Jesus, one of the most symbolic spaces in the city, where an intense street capoeira angola roda takes shape. There, several capoeira games emerge, filled with malícia, body awareness, musicality and strategic intelligence — central elements of the capoeira angola tradition. The documentary reveals an atmosphere that many capoeiristas rarely see recorded: living capoeira angola in the streets of Salvador, with its musicality, spontaneous encounters and the strong presence of Bahian popular culture. Throughout the film we also hear the reflections of Mestre Lua Rasta, who speaks about capoeira, about life and about the cultural role of this art within the history of Afro-Brazilian culture. The historical narrative is accompanied by reflections from historian and researcher Frederico José Abreu (Fred Abreu), one of the main references in capoeira studies. His comments help to understand the historical and cultural meaning of this movement and the place of street capoeira angola within the memory of capoeira. In one of the most striking moments of the roda, Mestre Lua Rasta presents Moringue (Moraingy), a traditional fighting art from Madagascar, recreated within the capoeira roda, establishing bridges between African combat traditions, popular culture and capoeira angola. This material reveals a deep dimension of capoeira: the capoeira that lives in the streets, in music, in encounters and in cultural resistance. A powerful portrait of capoeira angola in Salvador, of Afro-Brazilian tradition and of the cultural work developed by Mestre Lua Rasta. This video was granted and authorized by Mestre Lua Rasta for publication on the Museu da Capoeira channel, a gesture for which we deeply thank the trust and the sharing of this important document of capoeira memory.
