Mayhem essentially invented black metal. At least the classic form. But before that happened, and before it could develop into what it is today, there were many intermediate steps. From Pure Fucking Armageddon, the 1986 demo, to the recently released Liturgy of Death, it was a long road, one that couldn't be traveled without losses.
