What If 18 Fantasy Model Kit Box Artwork

Please enjoy this (15 minute) video which imagines Model Kits of cool hardware from the 1960s Gerry Anderson TV show 'Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons'. While not as successful as 'Thunderbirds', this sombre and menacing show has a lot of fans and a cult following. It features a wide array of futuristic vehicles and aircraft. In 'Thunderbirds' the machines were stars alongside the human characters, but here it is all in support of the hero of the show - 'Captain Scarlet' and the other members of Spectrum in their fight against the invisible Mysterons. Here in the 1960s in the UK (where the show was made) it was well represented for the youngsters with a nice range of Dinky Toys of the three main vehicles as well as a superb 1/72nd scale Airfix Model kit of the Angel Interceptor aircraft. But why only this kit and nothing else from the show? Or from other Anderson shows? A mystery.. Growing up I would have scooped up any more model kits based on the show. I was unaware of the many IMAI model kits until the late 1980s. Many of these suffer from inaccuracies dues to toy/play value. The imaginary kits in this video are all subjects designed by Derek Meddings or Mike Trim. Derek did the SPV, Cloudbase and the Angel Interceptor fighter I believe Mike Trim was responsible for the Spectrum Patrol Car, Maximum Security Vehicle, Spectrum Helicopter and Spectrum Hovercraft among many others. So many great designs, all beautifully realised on screen with spectacular models. Please visit my website to see more original artwork based on classic Sci-Fi and Adventure films and TV shows.
