Part 46 'How I made a wheel arch repair patch using hand tools'
Part 46 is a bit more of a 'how to' rather than the Rover restoration vlog. I didn't get a chance to video a repair on the passenger side rear wheel arch due to time and not wanting to burn out the camera sensor since I don't have a spare welding shield. So in this video I demonstrate a quick (ish) method of forming a wheel arch repair patch panel using just hand tools and some rubber or PVA foam sheet. The reason for using a rubber sheet is to allow the metal to stretch outwards (when it's being hit from inside the patch) in order to form a swage line. In an ideal world you would use a folding machine, a bead-roller or swager and shrinker-stretcher set to form the shape but not everyone has pro-bodyshop or fabrication tools. Hopefully you'll find it useful - especially as some classic cars and even 'modern' classics dont have a very good repair panel supply situation. The trick with this method is to make an accurate as possible template using paper or cereal pack, make marks where body lines and swage lines go before transfering to metal. Practice on scrap first. The chisel must be rounded and ideally the profile should match the shape of the swage or body line. Since there is a lot of hammer noise I added some music supplied by You Tube.
