The Man Behind Every Song You Love

PETER ASHER: EVERYWHERE MAN | Directors Dan Geller & Dayna Goldfine on The Beatles, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt & the Making of a Music Legend He was at the center of everything. As one half of Peter and Gordon, Peter Asher had a hit with a song Paul McCartney handed him. At Apple Records, he signed James Taylor. As a producer and manager, he spent decades shaping the sound of Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Barbra Streisand, and so much of modern popular music — all while somehow remaining just out of the spotlight. PETER ASHER: EVERYWHERE MAN is a new documentary from Dan Geller and Dayna Goldfine, the directors behind HALLELUJAH: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song. It is one of the most joyful films about how music actually gets made — and about the rare figure who helped make it happen from nearly every side of the room. We sat down with Geller and Goldfine to talk about what drew them to Peter Asher’s extraordinary story, his connection to The Beatles and Apple Records, what it took to bring Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, and Carole King into the film, and why the man who shaped so much of modern music was never really the story — until now.
