Brompton Camping Adventure - 2 Nights on Achill via the Greenway
A three day bike packing trip with my Brompton - cycling from Westport to Achill Island along the Great Western Greenway. The Greenway is 46km in length and offers safe cycling to access Achill Island. The train journey from Dublin to Westport cost me €35 return and I wild camped on the island for 2 nights, exploring much of the island along quiet roads. The weather was really warm on the first day and it was mixed for the remaining 2 days but exceeded my expectations of how it might be. Achill is very bike friendly and offers fantastic variety in scenery with plenty of hills to keep you working hard also. There are some wonderful sights along the way. I have fond memories of camping next to the sea on both nights and Slievemore was never far from my view when I turned corners on Day 3. Seeing the changing form of the mountain as I progressed was a thrill every time. Much of the film the Banshees of Inisherin was shot in Achill.
