I've been around for 27 years. I was more courageous and fearless back then. We weren't afraid of anything back then... there wasn't any hatred towards us. They looked at us like, 'What a modern, what a sweet person.' I always say, living through the '90s was a privilege. We lived through a crazy 10 years. I was applauded on stage, but the moment I turned my back, they mocked me. It's been like this since the day I first appeared. They always said, 'Oh, my pasha,' to my face and made fun of me behind my back. Even the people who made money off me did this. It's hard to explain. But it's something that happened in our country." He'd come on stage and applaud me like crazy, but when he saw me on the street, he'd say, "Oh, I don't want to shake your hand."
