Can a 153K-Mile EcoBoost Still Make Big Power?

Most people think a 153,000-mile EcoBoost should be slowing down… Today, we strapped my nearly stock 2018 Ford F-150 FX4 3.5L EcoBoost onto the dyno at Dyno Edge in Albuquerque, New Mexico to find out exactly how much power this truck still has left to give. This wasn’t just a “throw a tune on it and hope” kind of test. We ran multiple pulls: • Stock Tune • MPT 91 Daily-Tow Tune • MPT 91 PR-X Tune • Plus an additional octane booster test And honestly… the results shocked me. At 5,300 feet elevation... On 91 octane... With 153,000 miles... This truck laid down over 440 wheel horsepower and nearly 580 lb-ft of torque. Even crazier? The truck looked HEALTHY doing it. One important thing to understand in this video is the difference between CORRECTED vs UNCORRECTED dyno numbers. The SAE corrected numbers mathematically normalize the truck’s performance to sea-level atmospheric conditions so the results can be compared fairly against dyno results from lower elevations. But here in Albuquerque, New Mexico at roughly 5,300 feet elevation, the truck physically experiences much thinner air than sea level. That means the UNCORRECTED numbers represent the truck’s actual real-world power output in the environment it was tested in. CORRECTED RESULTS: • Stock Tune: 374 WHP / 480 WTQ • MPT Daily-Tow: 441 WHP / 555 WTQ • MPT PR-X: 446 WHP / 579 WTQ UNCORRECTED RESULTS (Actual Albuquerque Air Density): • Stock Tune: 298 WHP / 382 WTQ • MPT Daily-Tow: 350 WHP / 441 WTQ • MPT PR-X: 355 WHP / 461 WTQ Either way… the gains from tuning alone were substantial.
