While firmly rooted rose bushes are often exposed to the full force of the sun, roses in containers offer an invaluable advantage: flexibility. To make choosing the right roses for your balcony, patio, or front door even easier, we've compiled a selection of particularly robust and heat-tolerant varieties that thrive in pots and are among the top performers in this category! Roses have a deep root system. This means they can draw moisture from deeper soil layers – but only if they have sufficient opportunity to do so. Overwatering or watering incorrectly can easily lead to waterlogging, root rot, or fungal diseases. The right balance is crucial. When should you water roses? In the morning between 5 and 9 a.m. – the water can soak into the roots before the sun gets too strong. On very hot days, you can also water in the late evening to retain moisture overnight. Tip: It's better to water roses infrequently but thoroughly, rather than a little bit every day. This encourages them to develop deeper, stronger roots. How often do roses need water? Guidelines: Newly planted roses: Water thoroughly 2-3 times a week. Established roses: Water once a week is often sufficient. Potted roses: Check daily, as they dry out more quickly. The correct watering technique: Floor watering: Water should reach the roots directly – not over the leaves, as moisture on the foliage promotes fungal diseases (e.g., powdery mildew).
