Low Calorie Milk Tart 🥮 | South African Recipe [Step-by-Step Process]
Every South African girl loves a good old Milk Tart ❤️ Now this is not your traditional milk tart, as I've transformed it from a decadence indulgence into a simple, high protein, low calorie, and delicious dessert you can have every darn day of the week! This recipe comes in at only 312 calories and packs in 20g of protein! 🙌 Yes please!! This recipe makes two portions - so you can have one for today and one for tomorrow 😜 I used a giant muffin tin for my two milk tarts - these are really handy for making desserts in the perfect portions! Let's get cooking: The Crust: 🗸 Add 60 grams Oats Flour (242 calories) into a mixing bowl 🗸 Then add one scoop of vanilla whey protein powder (118 calories). 🗸 Next add 2 sachets of sweetener (0 calories). 🗸 Then add 20g of Flora extra Light Butter (40 calories). 🗸 Then add in 50g of Low-fat Greek/Plain yogurt (26 calories). 🗸 Mix it all together - start from the middle, and spread it until it all comes together to form a dough - it may take a little while but be patient :) 🗸 Now spray non-stick spray over the giant muffin tin, it will help to come out nicely 🗸 Put some flour into your hands to and separate your dough into two balls 🗸 Also, put some flour into the board and press down each ball to form a big round circle 🗸 Place each piece of dough inside the muffin tin to become a little bowl for our custard mixture 🗸 We’re going to bake this around 12 minutes until they’re nice, crisp, and golden on 180 degrees in the oven Next is the custard part of our delicious little protein Milk Tart. The custard part is pretty easy. • 11:45 Heat 200 ml Almond milk(25 calories) in a small saucepan on the stove • 12:19 In a small bowl, add 1 1/2 Tbsp of Corn Starch (52 calories) which is what will thicken our custard • 12:47 Add a little of almond milk to the cornstarch to create a paste • 12:54 Add Three sachets (0 calories) sweetener to the corn starch mixture • 14:02 Mix it well and pour into the simmering almond milk • 14:38 Keep it up on a medium to low heat and stir continuously • 14:52 Now drop-in two egg yolks (110 calories) and continue to stir • 16:32 Lastly add a little cinnamon sprinkle and cook for a further 5 minutes while stirring continuously Remove your tart crusts from the oven and your custard from the stove Now, we’re going to fill our little tart moulds with our yummy milk tart mixture, then pop into the fridge to set and get the beautiful, nice, thick, custody texture we are after. Sprinkle with cinnamon and allow to cool down. Now you've got a delicious low calorie, high protein milk tart recipe you can have every night of the week!
