Although often overshadowed by the famous Douglas C-47 Skytrain, the C-46 played a critical role in extreme logistical missions, especially in the China-Burma-India theater. Originally designed as a pressurized commercial airliner, the C-46 quickly evolved into a robust military transport, capable of operating at high altitudes, carrying heavy loads, and withstanding severe weather conditions. Its most famous mission was the aerial resupply of China across the Himalayas, on the perilous route known as "The Hump."
