According to reports, three labourers had arrived early morning for cleaning work at the well owned by local resident Sukanta Parida. One worker first entered the well but soon fell unconscious due to suspected toxic gas or lack of oxygen. In a rescue attempt, two more workers entered the well one after another but also collapsed inside. Hearing their cries, villagers rushed to the spot and managed to rescue the victims. Fire service personnel later arrived and pulled out the trapped workers. One was declared dead at Ali Community Health Centre, while the other two—reportedly a father and son—have been admitted to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.
