It’s also getting some new Global West suspension and other enhancements from Detroit Speed. We thought we’d share an update as we build the car in our latest “What are you in for” video series where we share in-process projects from around the shop! Keep The Original Corvette C3 Styling C3 Corvettes are extremely popular. This 1972 Corvette roadster was originally powered by a 350 cube V8 and a 4-speed manual transmission. The original engine was long gone, and this car has also been repainted in a non-original color. It was born in Cortez Silver and is now wearing Mulsanne Blue. For these reasons, we’re not overly concerned with maintaining the C3 Corvette’s originality, so this 1972 Corvette is a great candidate for modern upgrades to add power, performance, and reliability. We routinely perform these ls swaps at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop. The new engine will be a 376 cubic inch 6.2 liter LS3 rated at 530 HP built by Blueprint Engines. These are great performers and feature a 30 month / 50,000 mile warranty for peace of mind. It will be managed by a Holley Terminator X Max EFI system, and mated to a Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed transmission for gear-rowing fun. A hydraulic clutch keeps the pedal action smooth. The C3 LS3 swap will rumble through MagnaFlow exhaust. Suspension Upgrades Global West tubular control arms will improve the 1972 Corvette’s handling and road feel, along with coil-over shocks at all four corners. The steering response is improved with a Borgeson power steering gear, which replaces the original Corvette power steering system. Wilwood brakes and a hydraulic power brake booster will bring huge improvements to the braking performance. A Vintage Air air conditioning system will keep the occupants comfortable, even though the top goes down on this Corvette Roadster. Dakota Digital gauges and modern audio will also enhance the interior and keep the driver informed of what the LS3 is up to. A Detroit Speed wiper motor and headlight motors improve the performance of the old vacuum assist parts. An LS3 swap into a C3 Corvette is a great way to bring new car reliability and a huge increase in power over the stock 350 V8, while maintaining great driving manners along the way.
