The Mobile: Reggio-Inspired Kindergarten Project
Hanging in the entry way to The College School is a beautiful mobile that sways in the wind, reflects the school's values, and is a child-driven project and child-created product. This video documents the entire process of the project from commission, to dreaming, to changes, to models, to sketches, to fabrication, to installation, and finally to celebration. The project was Reggio-inspired and child-centered. What first was thought to be a 2-3 week project ended up taking 2-3 months as the children's ideas and passions were followed. Emergent objectives and well-established objectives were both included in the curriculum. The College School is an independent school in St. Louis, MO that believes in child-centered and experiential education. Inspired by the Reggio Approach in our Early Childhood Program, we believe that children are citizens of today and that authentic projects foster life-long learning.
