It's not just about having the Son, but also about hearing Him. His voice is governing, and a child's heart knows how to respond to His guidance. The more we respond to His voice, the more we know Him. If we want to know Him more, we need to listen to Him and obey Him. This isn't the sum of sensory experiences: it's a responsibility. We've trivialized the expression "His voice," and we need to recover our awareness of God's voice, because by doing so, there's less room for the voice of the serpent. Hearing His voice is having the support of the kingdom of heaven; it's the kingdom in action. The Son's voice defines all things. God called us to hear so that we can speak what the Son speaks. That's why it's time to renounce the pride of our own opinions. The Church doesn't have its own voice: it listens to the voice of its Lord. No one has a monopoly on God's voice; we hear it collectively. And if God speaks, God sustains. That's why we must all take responsibility for removing the obstacles to the voice of His Word. We were trained to be guided by our senses, until the life of the Spirit came. The word of the cross separates us from the mixtures, and our minds—trained by a perverse system that identified us as orphans—are reconfigured in the Spirit to recognize us as children. That is why we need to learn to identify His voice among so many others, remembering that His voice contains a substance called love: He speaks well of us. The expression of His love contributes to our maturity; His love gives us the security to move forward toward what He desires. His Voice is our only confidence and comes to affirm us in His love.
