I traveled to northern Angola to visit Mbanza Kongo, the former capital of the Kingdom of Kongo. I expected to learn about history. Instead, I met a man that locals still call the king. In this episode, I travel across northern Angola exploring local markets, buying traditional gifts, visiting historical sites, meeting local families, and discovering how pieces of the Kingdom of Kongo still survive today. Along the way I visit the oldest church in Sub-Saharan Africa, explore a UNESCO World Heritage Site, drink local palm wine, and finally meet the traditional leader who still holds community courts hearing disputes involving marriage, land, family matters, and even witchcraft. This was one of the most surprising places I visited in Angola—not because of what I expected to find, but because of what still exists today. 📍 Mbanza Kongo, Angola Watch the rest of my Angola series here:    • Angola   Subscribe for more travel adventures from places that rarely make it onto the typical tourist trail.
