The prefecture of the Hautes-Alpes, the city of Gap, lives to the rhythm of the 4th Chasseurs Regiment, an iconic unit of 850 men that established its headquarters in the hills above the town in 1983. Unbreakable ties bind Gap, the surrounding towns, and "the 4th," both in terms of its impact on the local economy and the symbolic significance of this unit, which suffered five fatalities during Operation Barkhane.
