Dalie - odmiany i zasady uprawy. Gdzie najlepiej sadzić i jak o nie dbać.
Dahlias! 💚 The end of summer is their time of magnificent blooming. The greatest feature of these plants is the multitude of varieties. Everyone will surely find one they love. 💜 That's why dahlias are the stars of today's "Plant of the Week" series. Enjoy! Our grandparents often call them "Dahlia" or "Georgia." Once a must-have decorative element for allotments, their popularity declined somewhat, only to rebound with a vengeance. Today, we grow dahlias not only in gardens but also in pots, on balconies, and patios. That's because there are a number of varieties to choose from, from very tall and showy ones to short, dwarf varieties that are perfectly suited for container cultivation, with beautiful flowers in an incredibly rich color range and a huge variety of flower shapes. As a reminder, dahlias are divided into different types based on their flower structure. The following are distinguished: Pom-pom dahlias – have compact, almost spherical inflorescences. Collar dahlias – larger outer petals form a distinctive collar around tubular inner petals. The petals usually have contrasting colors. Globular dahlias – similar to pompom dahlias, but develop larger inflorescences and the petals are not as tightly rolled. Single dahlias – usually 8-10 petals loosely surround the center of the flower. These are mainly dwarf varieties. Peony dahlias – have double flowers with wide, almost flat petals. Semi-cactus dahlias – the petals are rolled up halfway, and sometimes slightly wavy at the base. Cactus dahlias – all petals are rolled up and pointed, forming a compact inflorescence. Anemone dahlias – one or more whorls of wide petals surround a cluster of tubular, cake-like flowers embedded within the inflorescence. Waterlily dahlias – similar to water lilies, they form flat inflorescences with large, densely arranged petals. Orchid dahlias – their petals are long and narrow, arranged in star-like circles, and have interesting, shaded colors. Ornamental dahlias – their inflorescence consists of flat, wide petals that gradually taper towards the center. The petal edges are sometimes notched. Their flowers come in almost every color, missing only a shade of blue. Some can grow to quite large sizes, much larger than the palm of your hand, and all are suitable as cut flowers. It's important that they are already in bloom, as the buds will likely wilt in a vase. Dahlias belong to the Asteraceae family, and their current name comes from the Swedish botanist Andreas Dahl. Several thousand varieties have been registered worldwide, so everyone can find one they like. Short, dwarf varieties grow to about 40 cm tall, and taller varieties reach about 1.5 meters – these sometimes require staking. A common feature of all of them is that they are not frost-resistant. Their rootstocks are planted from mid-April to the end of May, when the above-ground parts of the plants are no longer threatened by spring frosts. They are dug up after the first frost, cutting back any previously frozen shoots to about 10 cm. Afterwards, they are stored in a cool room during the winter, but where the temperature doesn't drop below freezing. During the growing season, these plants thrive and thrive in sunny locations, preferring fertile, well-drained soil with a neutral pH. This is important to remember both when planting them in flowerbeds and in pots. During planting, the dahlia hole or container can be enriched with compost or, for example, granulated manure. Watering is an important maintenance step for dahlias. They thrive precisely when our climate is at its hottest and often driest. We need to ensure that these plants receive adequate water, especially if we're growing them in pots. The soil in which they grow should be constantly moist. At the same time, of course, we should avoid stagnant water. Therefore, remember to always ensure that containers or balcony boxes with dahlias have holes in the bottom to allow excess water to drain. In flowerbeds, however, ensure that water does not stagnate near the plants. These plants dislike waterlogged soil, so if you have such soil in your garden, you can plant them on a slight rise. If you have several dahlias to plant or want to grow them in combination with other plants in the garden, remember to space them appropriately. Tall varieties are usually planted 50-60 centimeters apart, while dwarf varieties can be planted closer together, for example, 20-30 cm apart, if you want to create a compact group planting. They look beautiful in single plantings, as well as in...
