After the defeat of the Malta convoy in March, the British command decided to launch another similar operation only in June. This time, it was decided to send two convoys to Malta from different directions – Operation Vigores from Alexandria and Operation Harpoon from Gibraltar – which led to large-scale military clashes that engulfed virtually the entire Mediterranean Sea.
