Writing songs is never easy. Sometimes we're particularly inspired, and other times we find it impossible to even choose a handful of chords in succession. I created this video with this in mind, listing four possible chord progressions that can save us when we get stuck and can't finish our song. We've often already tried all the diatonic chords—those provided by the key we're composing in—and none of them seem to give us the right push toward a new section of the song or toward the ending. In fact, there are alternatives provided by musical harmony that allow us to borrow chords from other modes. This topic is called "modal interchange."
